Who helps you find an NP clinical placement?

“Placement support” means different things at different schools. These three examples show why you need the current policy for your specialty, location, and clinical term before you compare programs.

The short answer

Walden tells nursing students to secure their own site and preceptor, while Duke describes coordinator-led matching at affiliated facilities. Vanderbilt’s process changes with location: its team secures sites within the Nashville-area radius, and out-of-area students help locate leads. None of those descriptions alone guarantees a placement for every NP track, state, or term. Check each school’s current written policy.

Minnesota

Walden University

Walden’s nursing field-experience guidance puts the site and preceptor search on the student. It also describes preparation resources and coaching. A separate practicum pledge has eligibility conditions, so the policy for your exact program and term matters more than a headline promise.

North Carolina

Duke University

Duke describes a school-coordinated placement process: clinical placement coordinators support students by matching them with preceptors at affiliated facilities. That is meaningful support, but the public page does not establish an unconditional placement guarantee for every specialty and location.

Tennessee

Vanderbilt University

Vanderbilt’s published process depends on where a student completes clinical work. For students within its Nashville-area radius, the school says its office and faculty secure sites. Out-of-area students work collaboratively to locate sites and are encouraged to develop leads.
